Training materials:

A studio issued teacher training manual will be provided. However, the following resources are highly recommended to aid in your growth as a teacher. While you don’t NEED to purchase all of these books, please choose at least one or two to have with you for the training as we will be practicing sequencing and teaching and these books provide a library of exercises for you to reference while designing your sequences.

Pilates, Joseph. Pilates’ Return to Life Through Contrology. This book, originally published in 1943, describes the philosophy of the founder of Pilates as well as detailing the 34 fundamental, classical original exercises. Although mat Pilates has evolved since the original publication of this book, it is highly recommended and inexpensive.

Siler, Brooke. The Pilates Body. The layout of this book is based on a progression of mostly classical exercises from beginner to advanced. The stand out section of this book is it’s breathwork section, detailing breathing patterns for each exercise. The author trained directly within the Joeseph Pilates lineage.

Ward, Tracy. Science of Pilates. This book details classical moves, and adds some modern exercises, not included in Joe’s original book.  Modifications and progressions are given for each exercise. What stands out in this book is that it includes detailed anatomy of each exercise and it includes a few basic and prescriptive sequences.

Important note: Every trainee comes in with a different background. Those who are new to teaching fitness or group classes may require additional apprenticeship and practice-teaching hours beyond the minimum program requirements before they feel ready to teach studio classes. We are committed to helping each trainee develop the confidence, skills, and experience needed to become a successful instructor.
