Posture of the Month: Fixed Firm Pose

Fixed Firm Pose (Supta Vajrasana): Finding Depth with Support

Fixed Firm Pose is a deep reclined posture where you sit between your heels and gently lean back. It creates an intense stretch through the thighs, hip flexors, and ankles while opening the chest.

This pose isn’t about forcing your way down—it’s about working with your body.

With Props (recommended for most people):
Place a bolster, pillows, or stacked blankets behind you and slowly recline onto them. You can stay upright or rest on your forearms instead of going all the way back. This reduces pressure on the knees and low back while still giving you the opening.

Why practice it:

  • Opens the front body (quads + hips)
  • Opens and elongates the GI tract, improving digestion
  • Improves posture
  • Encourages slow, steady breathing in intensity

Key reminder:
If you can’t breathe, you’ve gone too far. Back up, add support, and let the pose meet you where you are.

At Hot Yoga Newberry, you’ll practice the supported version of this pose in our Restorative and Yin (non-heated) class or the classic version of the pose in our Hot Yoga classes.

Try the supported version with a block and bolster. Hold for 2-3 minutes. Lift the chest and breathe.
